Albert P. Calabrese Albert P. Calabrese, 89, of Wind Gap, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth. He was the beloved husband of Joyce (Remey) Calabrese, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage last May. BORN: Born September 11, 1925 in Wind Gap, Al was a son of the late William and Mary (Barbone) Calabrese. PERSONAL: A member of the U.S. Navy, Al honorably served his country aboard the USS Staff, which was a minesweeper, during WWII, and was also the flagship in the invasion of Normandy. Upon returning home from the service, he was a proud founding member of the Wind Gap American Legion Post 724 where he retained his membership for over 60 years. For more than 30 years, together with his brothers, he served in various capacities as either owner or operator, but was always a well known friendly face at the Wind Gap Gulf Service. In later years, he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, going to flea markets and collecting World War II memorabilia. SURVIVORS: In addition to his wife, Joyce, Al is survived by his beloved children, Lisa Hahn and her husband Barry of Wind Gap; Cia Marie Kneebone and her husband Joseph of Saylorsburg; Albert P. Calabrese, Jr. and his wife Christine of Poughkeepsie, NY; and Thomas Calabrese and his wife Michelle of Pen Argyl. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Kristen, Chelsea, Rhianna, Jared, Curran, Nicolas, Miranda and Ian; and two great-grandchildren, Arrayan and Joshua. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Dominic, Rocco and Pasquale. SERVICES: Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 am on Tuesday, April 7, at the Schmidt Funeral Home, 202 West Street, Wind Gap, PA. A funeral service will follow at 11 am with the Rev. C. Frank Terhune presiding. Burial will be in Wind Gap Cemetery.
