Obituary

Allen B. Burley, 97, of Nazareth, passed away Monday, December 2, 2013 in Alexandria Manor, Nazareth. BORN: September 14, 1916, in Forks Township, he was a son of the late Lewis and Esther Stoffer Burley. Allen was the husband of the late Frieda Haftl Burley. PERSONAL: Allen honorably served his country as a plank member aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga, during WWII, in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded several medals including 5 Bronze Stars for acts of heroism, and meritorious service in a combat zone. Later, Allen worked 40 years as a machinist at Taylor Wharton, before retiring. He was dedicated to his family, and was diligent in always being able to provide for them. MEMBERSHIPS: He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Nazareth, the American Legion, Nazareth, Easton Singles and the Big T Ship Association. SURVIVORS: He is survived by 2 sons, Marvin and his wife Marie of Bethlehem, Richard and his wife Suzanne of Nazareth; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by 2 sisters. SERVICES: Memorial services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am in the Schmidt Funeral Home, P.C., 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth, with the Rev. David B. Schaeffer presiding. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Allentown. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to St. John's Lutheran Church, 200 S. Broad St., Nazareth, PA 18064.
