Obituary

Allen B. Flory, 92, of Plainfield Township, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015, at Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth. He was the beloved husband of Pauline "Polly" (Karch) Flory, with whom he shared 71 years of marriage this past May. Born March 11, 1923 in Bushkill Township, Allen was a son of the late Preston and Ida (Seibold) Flory. Allen graduated from Nazareth High School with the Class of 1940. He went on to honorably serve his country with the U.S. Navy as a Grumman Wildcat Fighter Pilot. He served in the Pacific for 3 years with the 7th Fleet aboard the escort carrier USS Marcus Island. He was the recipient of many good conduct and service medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Philippine Award. Upon returning home from the service, he worked as an ironworker and welder for Union Local 580. An avid outdoorsman, Allen loved hunting, fishing and trapping, and worked for the Pennsylvania Game Commission in Predator Control for 20 years. Allen was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Nazareth, and was formerly a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plainfield Township. He was a member of the PA Farm Bureau, the PA Sportsman's Assoc., the Shad Fisherman's Assoc., the Junior Conservation School, and Lodge 622 of the F&AM. He formerly served as the President of the Belfast/Edelmans Sportsman's Assoc., and was a lifetime member of both the Trapper's Assoc. and the NRA. In addition to his wife, Polly, Allen is survived by his brother, John Flory and his wife Joan of Plainfield Twp., his sister, Thelma Lucas of Christiansburg, VA, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his many hunting and outdoor friends. Family and friends are invited to call from 9:30 to 11 am on Tuesday, June 9 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 183 South Broad Street, Nazareth, PA, 18064. A funeral service will follow at 11 am in the church with the Rev. Curtis G. Kemmerer presiding. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home, 202 West Street, Wind Gap.
