Alverna A. Acker, 94, formerly of Nazareth, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2015 in St. Luke's Hospice House, Bethlehem. She was the wife of the late Harvey T. Acker who died in 2009; together they shared 33 years of marriage. Her first husband, Arlon Roth, died in 1953; and her second husband, Paul Palny, died in 1964. Born August 31, 1920 in Upper Nazareth Twp, she was a daughter of the late Emory C. and Catherine Elizabeth (Transue) Trach. Alverna retired from Binney & Smith in Easton in 1980, after 32 years of service. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nazareth, and the former Nazareth Chapter #252 Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a lifetime member of the Easton Moose Lodge and the East Lawn Volunteer Fire Co. Auxillary, Nazareth. Alverna is survived by her step-children, Beverly Schlegel of Easton; Thomas Acker and his wife Cynthia of Allentown, and James Acker and his wife Jane of Lawrenceville, NJ; 8 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, April 6, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 South Broad Street, Nazareth. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church, with the Rev. David B. Schaeffer presiding. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Hecktown. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere Street, Nazareth.
