Arla Belle Sandt, 93, formerly of Wind Gap, Nazareth and Punta Gorda, FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at the Easton Hospital. She was the wife of the late James G. Sandt with whom she shared 68 years of marriage at the time of his passing in March, 2010. Born on June 22, 1922, in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Russell D. and Cora O. Spangenburg Coffman.
Arla Belle was a graduate of Easton High School, Class of 1940. She and her late husband Jim were co-founders of Sandt's Orchards in Plainfield Township, operating from 1943 to 1974. In cooperation with that endeavor, they owned and operated Sandt's Market in Wind Gap from 1963 through 1976. She was a long standing member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plainfield Township. Previously, she belonged to the Boat Club of Punta Gorda, FL, where she had been a seasonal member since 1978. At the age of 60, Arla Belle also became a licensed scuba diver.
Arla Belle is survived by three sons, James A. and his wife Eileen of Nazareth, Dale C. and his wife Linda of Wind Gap, and John G. and his wife Tammy of Fayetteville, NC; two daughters, Doris M. Labarre and her husband Neal of Nazareth and Donna J. Little and her husband Pete of Greenville, PA; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Coffman, and a sister, Mary Bryfogel.
Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 am on Saturday, February 27, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1422 Church Road, Pen Argyl, PA. Funeral services will begin at 11 am in the church with the Rev. C. Frank Terhune officiating. Burial will follow in Plainfield Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home, 202 West Street, Wind Gap.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Arla Belle's name may be offered to the Memorial Fund of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church at the above address.
