August J. Fischer, 89, of Plainfield Twp, known to family and friends as "Jack", passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 in St. Luke's Hospice House, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Dorothy Eschenbach Fischer; together they celebrated 65 years of marriage last August. Born on January 22, 1926, in Hawthorne, NJ, he was the son of the late August J. and Selma (Kabbel) Fischer. A member of the U.S. Army, Jack honorably served his country with the Black Hawk Infantry Division during WWII and was awarded many service medals, including the Bronze Star Medal for Exemplary Conduct. He worked for many years as an Accountant in the Payroll Tax Department of Faberge. Jack was known for his great but somewhat dry sense of humor. He had a strong passion for building with model trains and listening to his granddaughters' musical talents. He also always loved the outdoors, from feeding the birds and squirrels to taking nice long walks. There was always a special place in his heart for his pet dogs and other furry friends. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Nazareth. In addition to his beloved wife Dorothy, Jack is survived by his daughter, Lynne Januszkiewicz and her husband Jack of Bethlehem, and two granddaughters, Codi and Amie Januszkiewicz. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Doris McCann. Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 am on Monday, March 30, at Grace Lutheran Church, 5907 Sullivan Trail, Nazareth. A Funeral Service will follow at 11 am with the Rev. Harry L. Heffelfinger presiding. Burial will be in Belfast Union Cemetery, Nazareth. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere Street, Nazareth, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jack's name may be made to St. Luke's Hospice, Development Office, Attention Debra Miller, 801 Ostrum Street, Bethlehem, PA, 18015, or to Grace Lutheran Church at the above address.
