Barry L. Portz, 82, of Wind Gap, died Thursday, October 8, 2026, at his home. He was the loving husband of Margaret “Peg” Portz. Born March 8, 1944, in Tamaqua, he was the son of the late Charles Portz and Verna (Clause) Portz Steigerwalt.

At 17 years old, Barry proudly served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Division stationed at Fort Bragg. Following his military career he dedicated 37 years to the Palmer Township Police Department, serving as a Police Officer and ending his career as a Detective Corporal. After retiring from the Palmer Police Department, Barry was a truck driver for G.H. Trucking Company.

Surviving with his wife are his children, Denise Dingus of Hackettstown, NJ, and Daniel B. Portz of Wind Gap; stepchildren, Stacey Koclowski of Wind Gap and Christopher (Amy) Kercsmar of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Ty Portz, Zak Portz, Dylan Koclowski, Jacob Koclowski, Daniel Dingus, Davis Dingus, Cassidy Kercsmar, and Jessica Kercsmar; sister, Nancy Bullivant of Hellertown. He was predeceased by brothers, Charles “Skipper” Portz and Bruce Portz.
