Bert G. Cass, 89, of Washington Township, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, September 29, 2024 in Gino J. Merli Veteran's Center, Scranton. He was the loving husband of Linda (Gross) Cass.
Born May 15, 1935 in Ithaca, NY, he was a son of the late William and Ora (Bostwick) Cass. Bert honorably served his country from 1953-1974 as a Captain with the Marine Corps. Following his retirement from active duty, he worked in the cement industry and, while living in New York State, drove school bus.
Bert was always health conscious and maintained an active lifestyle which included playing tennis and participating in triathlons well into his later years. He enjoyed working outside and carpentry; he could fix anything. Bert loved his cats, the beach and sun, the Eagles and old movies, especially The Quiet Man starring John Wayne.
Along with his wife Linda, Bert is survived by 3 children; Cheryl Thomas and husband Paul, Cindy Nickerson and husband Marcus, Rob Cass, and a step-son Johnny Graff; sisters Laura Cannon and partner Charlie and Mary Cass; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he is predeceased by son Steven Cass, sisters Charlotte Warobick and Joan Miller; and brothers Michael Cass and William Cass.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorials in Bert's name may be sent to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or the Alzheimer's Association, Home Office - 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17 (Donor Services), Chicago, IL 60601.
