Bertha Elizabeth Feather nee Stouffer, 89, of Bushkill Township, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her husband and daughters. She was the beloved wife of James Richard Feather; married December 26, 1952.
Born June 7, 1930 in Upton, PA (Franklin County), she was a daughter of the late J. Hoke and Elizabeth Brake Stouffer.
Bertha attended Browns Mill Grammar School in Marion, PA. She was a graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School, Class of 1948. She earned her BS in Elementary Education at Shippensburg State Teachers College (now Shippensburg University), graduating in 1952. She was employed as an elementary school teacher in the Harrisburg Area School District (September 1952 to June 1953), Gettysburg Area School District (September 1953 to June 1966), Wilson Area School District (September 1966 to December 1966), Nazareth Area School District (January 1967 to September 1967), and Pen Argyl Area School District from September 1967 until her retirement in June 1994.
Bertha was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church since 1984 where she took part in various activities and groups. She was a fun loving person and cherished the time spent with her family. She enjoyed needlework, cards, games and square dancing, and earlier in life served as a Girl Scout leader. Bertha and Jim had a passion for cruises and traveling, and together visited all 7 continents.
In addition to her husband, Bertha is survived by daughter, Cynthia Ann Scullion and her husband William of York, PA, and their sons, Brian Scullion and his wife Shannon, and Jeremy Scullion, all of Pittsburgh, PA; daughter, Donna Jean Feather of Annapolis, MD; and sister, Nellie Jean Stahl of Greencastle, PA. She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Marybelle, Glenn, John, Thomas, and Henry.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, June 22 at 11 a.m. in Epworth United Methodist Church, 3245 Oakland Rd, Bethlehem, PA, luncheon to follow. Arrangements are under the care of the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bertha's name may be offered to EUMC Memorial Fund (EUMC PO Box 3107 Bethlehem PA 18017).
