Betty May Herd, 93, formerly of Bangor, passed away early Thursday morning, June 18, 2020 in Moravian Hall Square. She and her beloved husband Donald Herd celebrated 54 years of marriage prior to his passing on September 29, 2010.

Born April 10, 1927 in Washington Township, PA, Betty was the daughter of the late Earl and Irene (Miller) Kessler. She graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1944 and Churchman's Business School.

Betty was employed as a clerk for Metropolitan Edison, retiring after 40 years of service.

She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Plainfield Township, Order of the Eastern Star, Shutanka Chapter and the International Order of the Rainbow Girls. Betty loved gardening, and was a wonderful cook and baker. She and her husband Donald loved to entertain at their home in Bangor and hosted numerous parties for family and friends over the years.

Betty is survived by her brother, Thomas Kessler and his wife Helen; and nephews, Thomas Kessler and his wife Lynn, David Kessler and his wife Kathryn, and Nicholas Kessler and his wife Laura.

Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Monday, June 22, 2020 from 12-1pm in the Schmidt Funeral Home, 202 West St. Wind Gap. Funeral services will follow at 1pm with Rev. Christopher Druckenmiller presiding. Face masks are required for both the viewing and funeral. Betty will be laid to rest in Plainfield Cemetery.
