Betty A. Hinkel 87, of Nazareth, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013 in St. Luke's Hospital, Anderson Campus. She was the wife of Clarence E. Hinkel. Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage prior to his death on October 7, 2005. BORN: Betty was born October 7, 1925, in Nazareth, a daughter of the late Lester and Bertha Heimer Werkheiser. PERSONAL: She graduated from Nazareth High School, in 1943, and held the position of historian of her class. Betty later entered Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing, through the United States Cadet Nurse Corps Program, graduating in 1947. Throughout the 1950's, Betty worked as a Private Duty nurse in addition to being employed by Easton Hospital, and Dr. Frank Thompson, as his office nurse. In 1965 she began working for Dr. John Hoch, at his family practice office in Nazareth, retiring in 1992. MEMBERSHIPS: Betty was a member of St John's Lutheran Church, Nazareth where she was active in the ELCW and served as the Sunday school and kindergarten coordinator, a past Worthy Matron and member of the Nazareth Eastern Star, and a member of the Easton Tall Cedarettes as well as the White Shrine of Bethlehem. SURVIVORS: Betty is survived by her only child Janet Johnson and husband William of Mechanicsburg, PA; a sister in-law, Gloria Werkheiser; nieces, Carol Hilborn, Mary Zartler, Cheryl Hinkel and a nephew, James Hinkel. Along with her husband Clarence, she is predeceased by her brother Reynold Werkheiser. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, in St. John's Lutheran Church, 200 S. Broad St., Nazareth, PA 18064. Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday evening from 7:00 - 9:00 pm in the Schmidt Funeral Home, P.C., 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth and Tuesday from 10:00 - 11:00 am in the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nazareth. MEMORIALS: In Betty's memory contributions may be offered to the church or Moravian Hall Square Good Samaritan Fund, 175 W.
