Obituary

Carl O. LaBar, 91, of Nazareth passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Gracedale, Upper Nazareth Township. He was born February 25, 1932, in Bangor, a son of the late Melvin and Helen Jones LaBar. He was married to his beloved wife, the former Marian Breinig with whom he shared 55 years of marriage until her passing in 2011.

Carl lived and raised his family in the Nazareth area for most of his life. He was employed and worked for Collins and Aikman Knitting Mills in the Slate Belt, for many years, before working for Pfizer Corp. in Easton until retirement. He enjoyed roller skating and was an avid bowler.  Carl was an active volunteer fireman and former asst. Chief of East Lawn Volunteer Fire Company as well as being a lifetime member.  He was an "on the go" dad following all his children's and grandchildren's sports and activities.  He loved family day trips, bus trips, picnics, playing pinochle, pitching quoits and trout fishing with family and friends.  He was a die-hard Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles and Iron Pigs fan.

Carl was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Nazareth.

He is survived by sons, Blaine and his wife Michelle of Bushkill Township and Terry of Nazareth; grandchildren, Heather LaBar and fiancé Jason Toncik, Jared LaBar, Caitlin LaBar and fiancé Antoine Ray, and Travis LaBar and fiancée Brittany Watson; 1 great grandson, Leon. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Sherwood LaBar in 2000, and a brother Dale and sister Elizabeth, both in infancy.

Services will be held on Friday, February 2, at the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth with a viewing beginning at 10:00am followed by the funeral service at 11:00am. The Reverend Jeffery A. Brinks will be presiding. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Nazareth.

In lieu of flowers contributions, in Carl's name, may be sent directly to St. John's UCC, 183 S. Broad St., Nazareth, PA 18064.
