Carl T. Shafer, 89, formerly of Plainfield Township and Forks Township, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 at New Eastwood Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center , Wilson Boro. Born October 19, 1927, in Palmer Township, he was one of nine children of the late Harry F. and Elma E. Fehnel Shafer. He was the beloved husband of Esther M. Hunsberger Shafer. Together they celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Prior to retirement, in 1989, Carl worked 35 years for George V. Seiple & Son Inc., as a farm equipment service technician. Dedicated to his work, he acquired a great knowledge of old balers and became great friends with many of the farmers whose equipment he fixed. Over the years, he was a member of the Penn Jersey Tractor Club and served as an inspector and official during many tractor pull competitions. Actually, he considered the John Deere to be the only real tractor! Earlier in life, Carl was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed membership, and was actively involved with the road maintenance committee, of the Pocono Forest Sportsman's Club, in Gouldsboro, PA. Additionally, he was a member of Arndt's Lutheran Church in Forks Township.

In addition to his wife Esther, he is survived by 4 brothers, Edwin of Forks Township, Frederick and his wife Pat of Palmer Township, Harry and his wife Judy of Phillipsburg, NJ, Larry and his companion Loretta Curtis of Palmer Township; 2 sisters, Mary Jane Ricker of Nazareth and Arlene Finken of Roseto; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Howard and Allan.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday, 6-7:30pm and Thursday, 10-11am in Schmidt Funeral Home PC, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11am, Thursday. Carl will be laid to rest in Arndt's Cemetery.
