Carol N. Mackes, of Tatamy, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2023, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. Born on August 25, 1944, in Richmond, PA Carol was 1 of 4 daughters born to Donald and Helen (Brown) Evans.
She was a graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1962, and went on to attend Goldey-Beacom College in Delaware. After college, she briefly worked as a medical secretary before assisting her husband, Raymond, with the family insurance business. However, Carol's true passion was her family, and she excelled in her role as a devoted wife to Ray and mother to her sons, Kyle and Jared.
Throughout her life, Carol held many interests and hobbies. She was an avid reader and was a member of a local book club. She also enjoyed various arts and crafts, including macrame, stained glass work, sewing and especially quilting. Her creativity was evident in the beautiful pieces she crafted, which are treasured by her family and friends.
Carol's dedication to service was exemplified in her continued involvement with Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, where she formerly held the position of chapter President. She cherished the friendships she made during her time in the sorority and maintained those relationships throughout her life. Carol was also a longtime and active member of St. Peter's UCC in Tatamy, where she also served as past president of the Women's Guild. Her faith was a vital part of her life, and she lived it out through her service to her church and community.
Carol is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Raymond; her sons, Kyle (Catrina) Mackes of Mohrsville and Jared Mackes of Tatamy; her grandson, Emmit Mackes. She also leaves behind her sisters, Joanne Evans (Eric Quimby), Jeanne (Ken) Reppart, and Connie (Bob) Gensemer, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held Monday, September 25th from 10:00-11:30 am at Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 11:30 am. Carol will be buried at Richmond United Methodist Church Cemetery, Bangor.
Carol's legacy will continue to live on through the lives of those she touched. Her warm spirit and generous heart will be remembered by all those fortunate enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions in Carol's name to St. Peter's UCC, 401 Broad St., Tatamy, PA 18085, or to the ALS Association, PO Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-0022.
