Obituary

Carrie E. Ede, 94, formerly of Easton, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022, in Country Meadows, Bethlehem.  Born on June 20, 1928, in Wind Gap, she was the only child of the late Luther and Esther (Jones) Houck.  She was the beloved wife of Richard W. Ede Sr. with whom she shared 61 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2012.

Carrie valued education and hard work and was quite diverse in her accomplishments.  After attending Pen Argyl High School, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Temple University and she graduated from Temple School of Nursing.  She was an instructor at Easton Hospital School of Nursing, in service coordinator at Gracedale Nursing Home and retired from the Pen Argyl School District where she was a school nurse.

Although she was a career woman, she always recognized the importance of family.  Especially after retirement she found the time to enjoy being present in the lives of those she loved. Those who knew Carrie were quite familiar with her passion for reading and her unique sense of humor.

She was a life member of Temple University Alumnae Association, a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a lifetime member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pen Argyl.

She is survived by daughters; Karen Ward of Bethlehem, Gretchen Ottaly (Frank) of Bethlehem Township, Kristine Glidden of Florida and her unofficial adopted daughter Jackie Fehnel; grandchildren, Christian Keller (Casie), Jennifer Keller (fiancée Donald Marano), Jodi Marshall (Dave), Allison Butz (fiancée Mike Weaver), Sarah Ede, Thomas Ede (Laura), Madeline Schwartz (Michael), Mike Ede, Benjamin Glidden (Maegan), Adam Glidden; and great grandchildren Madison  and Baylin Keller, Abigail Gunn, Dylan Marshall, Jazmine and Hailey Gibbons, Parker and Bella Glidden and Jack Ede.

She is predeceased by son Richard W. Ede Jr. and son in law Charles "Chuck" Ward.

A viewing will be held Thursday, July 7, from 10-11 am at Schmidt Funeral Home, PC, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth.  A funeral service will follow in at 11 am with Pastor Chris Druckenmiller presiding.  Carrie will be laid to rest in Plainfield Cemetery, Pen Argyl.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Carrie's name may be sent to Center for Animal Health & Welfare, 1165 Island Park Rd., Easton, PA 18042.
