Charles William “Charlie” Ruth, 90, formerly of Belfast, passed away peacefully during the early morning hours of Saturday, July 11, 2026, at his daughter’s home in Nazareth. He was born on August 25, 1935, in Belfast, the son of the late Anna Ruth, and was lovingly raised by his grandparents, the late John and Mary Ruth.

Charlie was the beloved husband of Dolores (Welty) Ruth, and together they shared 70 wonderful years of marriage on April 21. Their life together was a true love story, one of deep affection, unwavering commitment, and an inseparable bond that carried them through every season of life. Charlie was a devoted husband, caring father, and proud grandfather, his family the center of his world.

He graduated from Nazareth Area High School in 1953 and went on to build a life marked by hard work and steady dedication. He worked for Lester Fehnel General Contractor for most of his working years. He also operated his own carpentry business, taking great pride in his work and approached every task with patience and care.

A lifelong member of St. Luke’s UCC in Belfast, Charlie faithfully served his church over the years on several committees, including Consistory President. He also shared his beautiful voice as a member of the choir and as a singer with the Out of Towners barbershop quartet, where he sang lead and tenor and helped the group earn recognition as the 1960 Mid-Atlantic Champions. Charlie’s love of music was one of the many gifts he shared with others throughout his life.

He found great peace and joy in caring for his five-acre property at his Belfast home, where he lived for 88 years. He enjoyed woodworking in his barn, spending time on his tractor, fishing, golfing, and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events and festivities. Some of his fondest moments were spent sitting on the patio with Dolores, enjoying the simple blessings of life together.

Charlie’s life was defined not only by what he did, but by who he was. He was a gentle soul with a calm and quiet spirit, a soft-spoken man whose kindness spoke louder than words. He was selfless in his devotion to his family, never one to complain, and always willing to help wherever he was needed. Those who knew him best will remember his strength, his patient nature, and the unconditional love he gave so freely. He was a humble heart in every sense, and his example left a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his wife, Dolores he will be missed and lovingly remembered by his sons, Richard C. Ruth and his wife Susan, and John S. Ruth and his wife Lisa; his daughter, Cindy L. Schlamp and her husband Kevin; his grandchildren, Christopher Ruth, Sophia Ruth, Michael Schlamp and his girlfriend Kate, Brittney Konsoulas and her husband Yanni, and Daniel Sterling; his great-grandchildren, Trey Schlamp, Brock Schlamp, and Kayson Schlamp; and brother-in-law Thomas Hower.  He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Hower.

Charlie’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to hospice nurse Michelle for her gentle care and deep compassion, which allowed him to remain at home surrounded by love.
