Charles Arthur Spohn, age 82, of Bethlehem, formerly of Nazareth, passed away from this life on September 21, 2026. Always the supporter, the guider, and the provider, Charlie was born on December 8, 1943 in Easton, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Roy Spohn and Lillian Smith Spohn Comfort. Charlie graduated from Nazareth Area High School in 1961 and Churchman’s Business School in 1964. After graduation Charlie shared 54 years of marriage with his high school sweetheart, the late Gloria Spohn of Nazareth.

Charlie had an impeccable work ethic and always took pride in his community service. He was member and past president of the Nazareth JC’s, the JCI Senate, Bushkill Township and Bethlehem Lions Clubs, and many other organizations that helped the community. He was an active member of St John’s United Church of Christ in Nazareth for 58 years and then became an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bethlehem, PA. His working life began as a cook and dishwasher at Carlton’s Restaurant, as an accountant for SL Plastics, and then ended his career at Rollin Johnson Trucking Company. After retirement, Charlie worked for the Nazareth Ambulance Corps as a bookkeeper and as a personal income tax preparer for many people and businesses in the area. This part of his career often ended up turning into long evenings of sitting around the dinner table talking and creating true friendships. As a measure of who Charlie was, he worked incredibly hard to provide opportunities for his family.

Charlie and Gloria traveled to 46 states in their life together and upon his retirement, he would become Pappy. He loved attending sporting events and school activities for his grandchildren. He had a never-ending love for PSU football and the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. Though he also supported Bloomsburg, WVU, IUP, Arizona State, Widener, LSU, Christopher Newport University, and Pitt, if only through a hat and shirt for his children and grandchildren. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and proud new great grandfather. Most of all he treasured his life, his Gloria, his family and his friends. He was as loyal as they come.

Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gloria. Charlie is survived by his daughter Christine (David) Siegfried of Bethlehem, son Jeffrey of Colorado, and daughter Debra (Erick) Smith of Virginia. He was especially proud of his grandchildren Jacob (Jackie and his new great granddaughter, Cassandra Siegfried) and Kendra Siegfried, Tanner and Arian Spohn, and Ella and Addison Smith. He is also survived by brother Barry of East Stroudsburg , sister-in-law Arlen Spohn of Nazareth, and several nieces and nephews.

Charlie couldn’t go anywhere without running into someone he knew. Friend is how Charlie will be remembered and greatly missed by all.

Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Friday, September 25th from 5:00-7:00 PM in the Schmidt Funeral Home 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth, PA and Saturday, September 26th, from 10:00-11:00 AM in Wesley United Methodist Church, 2540 Center St., Bethlehem, PA. Funeral services, with Pastor Candy LaBar presiding, will follow Saturday at 11:00 AM in the church. Charles will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, Nazareth.
