Obituary

Clifford J. Hess, 69, of Bushkill Twp., passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, after being unexpectedly stricken at home a few days earlier.  He was the beloved husband of Dawn E. Franke Hess, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage.

Born July 9, 1946, in Easton, he was a son of the late Clarence E. and Suella Simmons Hess.

Cliff graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1967, where he was an assistant Athletic Trainer.   He began his working career as a type setter for Sheridan Printing in Alpha, NJ.  Over the years, he also worked as a truck driver for Easton Packing Company, as a Bus Driver for Jennings Transportation and most recently as a Bus Driver for the Colonial Northampton Intermediate Unit 20, from where he retired after 18 years of service.  After retirement, Cliff worked part-time for both the Borough of Nazareth as a Traffic Officer and as a delivery person for Mycalyn Florals.   Cliff enjoyed keeping busy and was a well-known friend to all throughout the community.

Cliff was an active member of Vigilance Hose Co. No. 1, Nazareth, where he currently served as a Trustee, and formerly served as both President and Vice-President.  He was also a former member of the Phillipsburg Emergency Squad.  He was of the Moravian faith.

In addition to his beloved wife Dawn, Cliff was a loving father to his children, David Hess of Wind Gap, and Linda Hess of Bushkill Twp.  Also surviving are two brothers, Donald Hess and his wife Donna of Palmer Twp., and Thomas Hess and his wife Marianne of Easton, and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, May 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere Street, Nazareth, PA, 18064, and on Wednesday, May 4, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Nazareth Moravian Church, 4 South Main Street, Nazareth, PA, 18064, where funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Jeffrey Gehris officiating.  Burial will follow at Nazareth Moravian Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Cliff's memory may be offered to Nazareth Moravian Church at the above address, or to Vigilance Hose Co. No. 1, 49 South Broad Street, Nazareth, PA, 18064.
