Donald C. Bortz, 87, of Wind Gap, passed away on Tuesday morning, February 18, 2025 in Slate Belt Medical Center, Washington Township. He was the loving husband of Joanne (Getz) Bortz. He and Joanne recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary, a milestone that exemplified their unwavering commitment to one another.
Born January 29,1938 in Hereford Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Edward and Marie (Weidner) Bortz.
Donald was a graduate of Pen Argyl High School, Class of 1956 and retired from Ingersoll Rand after holding various positions. Donald bowled in leagues at Blue Valley Lanes in Wind Gap and enjoyed the outdoors which included hunting, fishing, camping trips with his family and golfing well into his 80's. He was very social and outgoing and liked nothing better than striking up a good conversation. Donald liked to keep busy and held various part-time jobs after his retirement.
He was a faithful member of St Peter's Lutheran Church in Plainfield Township where he volunteered at the "God's Garden of Grace" for many years. Donald was also the former sexton of Wind Gap Cemetery.
Along with his wife Joanne, Donald is survived by his daughter, Bethanne Bonieski of Forks Township; his son, Duane Bortz of Rochester, NY; grandchildren Keri Luckenbill and partner Andrew Lenig, Kim Johnson and husband Bryan, Andrew Bortz and his wife Amy, Megan Bortz, Michael Bonieski and Matthew Bonieski; 5 great grandchildren; sister Evelyn Werner and brother David Bortz and his wife Diane and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Sunday, February 23 from 2-3 PM in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1422 Church Rd., Pen Argyl (Plainfield Township) where the funeral service will begin at 3 PM with Pastor Chris Druckenmiller presiding. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Donald's name may be sent to the church.
