Donald B. Sandt, 73, of Nazareth, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, September 1, 2021 in L.V. Hospital, Muhlenberg with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Margaret "Peggy" (Jones) Sandt; together they celebrated 50 years of marriage on February 20, 2021.
Born September 26, 1947 in the Dexter (Nazareth), his grandparent's home, he was the son of the late Charles R. and Theresa A. (Keglovitz) Sandt.
Donald graduated from Nazareth High School, Class of 1965 and honorably served in the US Navy from 1965-1968 aboard the USS Cascade AD-16 and the USS Shenandoah AD-26.
He was employed as a maintenance supervisor for the Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 30 years and ESSROC in the same capacity for 14 years, prior to his retirement.
Donald was a member of the American Legion Post #415, Nazareth, the ESSROC Retiree's Fishing Club and a former member of the Bushkill Township Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed hunting at his cabin in Elk county, cruising with friends in his 1965 Corvette, maintaining his immaculate landscape and as a true mechanic, loved to " fix and tinker" in his garage. Donald cherished the times he spent with his family and always looked forward to Sunday dinners together and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Along with his wife Peggy, he is survived by 1 daughter; Aimee C. Grohotolski and her husband Joseph of Nazareth, 1 son; Kyle D. Sandt of Nazareth and his companion Christie Reichard , and 2 grandchildren; Connor J. and Collin M. Grohotolski , his sister and brothers in law; Cathy Klepeisz and her husband Tom of Nazareth, Hugh Jones and his wife Ginger of Pennsburg and Terry Jones and his wife Sally of Sunset Beach, NC as well as many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 9:30-11 am in the Schmidt Funeral Home, PC, 407 Belvidere St. Nazareth. A memorial service with military honors will begin at 11 am. The family respectfully requests that facial coverings are worn and social distancing be observed. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Donald's name may be offered to Support Homeless Veterans, 300 Inman Terrace, Unit B, Willow Grove, PA 19090.
