Donald R. "Spohny" Spohn, 79, of Upper Nazareth Twp., passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in Easton Hospital. He was the husband of Arlen Poyer Spohn, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage in January. Born May 5, 1938, in Wilson Boro, he was a son of the late Roy and Lillian Spohn.
Donald was a Corporal E-3 in the US Marine Corps, serving from 1956-1959. Earlier in life, he was employed by Lehigh Valley Dairies as a driver salesman. He then worked for Hercules Cement Co. as a millwright until 2001. Donald coached Nazareth Pals football and Tatamy Pee Wee baseball. He was an avid auto racing fan.
Donald was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Nazareth. He was a former member of the Tatamy Recreation Board, a member and former vice president of the Tatamy Stockertown Lions Club; and a member of the Local 773 Teamsters Union. He was a social member of Tatamy Fire Co., East Lawn Fire Co., and the Vigilance Hose Co. in Nazareth.
Along with his beloved wife Arlen, Donald is survived by a daughter, Tammy Pristash and her husband Chris; a son, Scott Spohn and his wife Sonya; three granddaughters, Lauren, Kaitlyn and Nicole; one grandson, Thomas; brothers, Charles and his wife Gloria, and Barry Spohn; and nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to a viewing on Friday, February 16, 2018, from 6-8 pm, and Saturday, February 17, from 10-11 am in the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth. Services will follow at 11 am in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Lichner presiding. Donald will be laid to rest with military honors in Northampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to the Tatamy Stockertown Lions Club, PO Box 147, Tatamy, PA 18085, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
