Donald M. Taff Sr., 89, of Nazareth, passed away with family by his side on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at his residence. He was the loving husband of Betty (Gentry) Taff with whom he shared 60 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2013.
Born March 4, 1932, in Columbus, Georgia he was the son of the late Curtis and Mary Lou (Simons) Taff.
Donald received a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, from Auburn University, and throughout his life remained faithful to his alma mater. Notably, he honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a proud patriot. By trade, Donald was a cabinet maker and carpenter. In addition to building cabins at Lake Wallenpaupack, he enjoyed wood working projects for family. However, engineering and innovation was his strong suit. He was employed by various companies including Westinghouse, SKF and Ingersoll-Rand Co. Subsequently in 1977, Donald became the founder owner/operator of Nazareth Machine Works, Inc. Along with his wife and sons, this became a successful business and family endeavor. Earlier in life, Donald was active with the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Masonic order and presently, a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Nazareth.
He is survived by three sons, D. Marshall Taff, Jr. (Eileen) of Danielsville, N. Steven Taff of Bath, and C. Randall Taff (Jo Marie) of Bushkill Township; two sisters, Brenda Buckelew (Reed), and Annette Sanders (Bobby); eight grandchildren, Jessica Gentry Regan (David), Grant M. Taff (Marcie), Cory Taff (Sara), Dustin Taff (fiancé Amy), Garrett Taff (fiancé Amber), Stephanie Taff (Gabrielle), Michael Taff and Savannah Taff; and eight great grandchildren, Colin, Leah, and Evan Regan, Gavin, Madelyn, Casen, Quinn and Lincoln Taff. He was predeceased by brother Rev. Ellis Taff and sister Becky Stanley.
Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing Thursday evening, December 16, from 6-8 PM in the Schmidt Funeral Home PC, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth. A funeral service will be held Friday, December 17, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home, facial coverings are optional. Following the funeral service, entombment with Military Honors will be at Holy Savior Cemetery, Bethlehem.
