Donald M. "Donnie" Werkheiser, 69, a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Tatamy, PA, on Wednesday evening December 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 5, 1956, in Easton, PA, Donnie was a son of the late Stanley T. Sr. and Mary (Tiger) Werkheiser.

It was a different time and era when Donnie grew up in South Side Easton. His formative years were filled with the joys of outdoor play and community spirit. This close-knit environment instilled in him the significance of hard work, family, and friendships that would guide him throughout his life. A proud graduate of Easton High School's Class of 1974, Donnie excelled as an athlete, participating in both basketball and baseball teams, showcasing his competitive spirit and sportsmanship.

His professional life was marked by a steadfast work ethic. A licensed plumber by trade, he remained available to help others when needed and usually as a favor. He was employed as a Corrections Officer for the state of New Jersey until retirement. His 25 years of service were characterized by his selflessness and a deep sense of duty.

Donnie's legacy is one of a life well-lived, marked by an unyielding commitment to perfection and completion in all he undertook. His ability to fix anything, his selfless nature, and his humorous outlook on life made him a cherished figure in the lives of many. During recent times of illness, he said what he missed the most was being able to work for his friends and family to help them out.

He always stayed busy, and his interests were expansive. When he wasn't working, Donnie took pleasure in hunting deer, bear, and turkey with both gun and bow. But it was his love for sports that remained constant throughout his life. For many years, he was a fixture in regional golf leagues and played on numerous local courses. His commitment to softball was just as strong, playing in adult leagues for over 40 years across Easton, Palmer Township, and Washington, NJ. He also coached softball for the Clippers in Nazareth for many years.

He was a former member of the Order of the Fleas and Citizens Hose Co. He was of the Lutheran faith.

Donnie adored his daughters and cared for them with a steadfast love—always there in a heartbeat, no matter the circumstance. Equal joy came from being a grandfather (Pappy). He loved his grandchildren deeply, celebrated every milestone with them, attended all their events, cheering them on and spoke of their accomplishments with an undeniable pride that lit up his face.

Donnie's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, shared with his beloved wife of 44 years, Patricia (Metz) Werkheiser, and his daughters, Shannon Johnson (Chris) and Carissa Werkheiser; grandchildren, Ava, Adelyn, Ace, and Ariella; siblings, Stanley, Barbara, Johnny, Barry, Lester, and Jenny, along with brother-in-law Guy, sister-in-law Brenda, and niece Julie. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Judy.

Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing Thursday, December 11, for 9:30-11am in the Schmidt Funeral Home, PC, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth, PA 18064. Services with Rev. Herbert C. Dolich presiding will begin in the funeral home at 11. Burial will be held privately later.
