Obituary

Donald G. Williams, 84, of Pen Argyl, died Sunday, January 27, 2013 in Easton Hospital. BORN: Born March 30, 1928 in Sciota, he was a son of the late John and Ethel Smith Williams. Donald was the husband of the former Mary Itterly. Together they celebrated 59 years of marriage. PERSONAL: Donald proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War, earning the rank of Corporal. Earlier in life, he was employed by Collins and Aikman as a truck driver, and later worked for the Easton Area School District as head custodian, retiring after 20 years of service. Donald loved gardening, especially growing his "prize" red potatoes. MEMBERSHIPS: He was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plainfield Township where he served on council, was involved with social ministry and the LCM, served as past president of the cemetery board, and helped with funeral lunches. Donald was also a member of the Wind Gap American Legion, AARP in Bangor, was a former member of Plainfield Township Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, and a faithful volunteer working in the sausage stand at the Plainfield Farmers Fair. He also worked for the election board for 25 years. SURVIVORS: Along with his beloved wife Mary, Donald is survived by his sister, Norma Williams of Sciota; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Elizabeth Williams, and brothers, Ambrose and Lloyd. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday in St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1422 Church Rd, Pen Argyl with the Rev. C. Frank Terhune presiding. Relatives and friends are invited to call 9:30-11:00 am in the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Plainfield Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home P.C., 202 West St., Wind Gap. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Donald may be offered to the church.
