Dorothy H.
Boeddinghaus
Jul 12, 1920 — Sep 17, 2023
Nazareth
Dorothy H. Boeddinghaus, 103 years of age, of Nazareth, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2023, at New Eastwood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, in Wilson Boro, PA. Born on July 12, 1920, in Newark, NJ, Dorothy was the cherished daughter of the late Howard and Ethel (Heift) Margetts.
She was the devoted wife to Fredrick Boeddinghaus, sharing many happy years together until his passing. Dorothy will be fondly remembered by her three loving daughters, Virginia Leslie of Danbury, CT, Nancy Schab of Edgewater Park, NJ, and Wendy McClung of Nazareth; and her sister, Janet Lambertson of Santa Maria, CA. She was a source of joy and inspiration to her seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Howard and Herbert Margetts, and her sister, Mildred Hayner.
Dorothy was a homemaker, providing a warm, secure, and nurturing home for her family. She was a wonderful cook and baker, her meals becoming a treasured tradition in the family. She was a woman of her time, a product of her generation, choosing to dedicate her life to her family and home. Beyond her homemaking duties, Dorothy had a passion for collecting and refinishing antiques and antique clocks and was a founding member of the Garden State Depression Glass Club, where she was vice president and head of publicity. She and her husband frequented many auctions, their shared interest becoming a beloved pastime. They were regular attendees at the annual Belvidere Heritage Victorian Day, often delighting in dressing in period clothing.
A woman of faith, Dorothy was a long-time member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Metuchen, NJ. Her spirituality was a cornerstone of her life and informed her kind and loving nature. She was also an active member of the Moravian Historical Society and the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. These memberships reflected Dorothy's love for history and her keen interest in horology.
Dorothy's life was one of love, dedication, and warmth. Her memory will be cherished by her family and all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her spirit, embodied in the antiques she lovingly restored and the family she adored, will continue to live on. In her passing, we remember a woman who was not only a product of her generation but also a beacon of love, nurturing, and steadfast devotion. Dorothy H. Boeddinghaus will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.
