Edith M. Mackes, 98, formerly of Plainfield Township, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023, in Gracedale. She was the loving wife of Paul Mackes who passed away in 1998.  Born December 14, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Eva (Haas) Engler.

Edith graduated from Nazareth High School and later worked for Pioneer Blouse Mill and Valerie Fashion before retiring.  She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pen Argyl, and the Plainfield Township Fire Company where she and her husband volunteered their time for many years.

She is survived by 4 sons, Glenn, Terry and wife Debbie, twins Bruce and Barry and wife Ruth; grandchildren, Lisa J. Girard and husband Phillip and Stacey Mackes and husband Dr. Michael Moore, Bryan Schaffer and wife Nadine, Brent Mackes and wife Shannon, Shawn Mackes and wife Kayla, Holly and Josh Mackes; and great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Bryn Heil and husband Curtis, Griffin, Nicholas and Danny, Tyler and Jayden Schaffer, Athena and Rylynn Mackes.

In addition to her parents and husband, Edith was predeceased by sisters, Gladys Day, Catherine Altemose and Jennie Poloni; brothers, Francis, Marlyn and Stewart Engler and daughter in law, Faye Mackes.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 from 10-11 am in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1422 Church Road, Pen Argyl (Plainfield Township) where a memorial service will begin at 11 am.  Edith will be laid to rest in Forks Cemetery, Stockertown.
