Obituary

Elsie H. Frey, 106, of Nazareth, died Thursday, November 5, 2026, at Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph H. Frey with whom she celebrated 53 years of marriage prior to his passing on November 28, 2000.

Born in Edelmans, she was the daughter of the late R. Oscar and Lizzie Hearn. A 1937 graduate of Nazareth High School, Elsie was employed by the former Penn-Dixie Cement Company in Nazareth. She later served as secretary of the Bushkill Township Zoning Board for 25 years before retiring in 2000.

Elsie was a devoted and active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Nazareth, where her faith and commitment to serving others were evident throughout her life. She sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School for 32 years, and was involved with Women of the ELCA, the Evangelism Committee, the Von Bora Society, and the Counting Teams. Her dedication to her community extended well beyond the church, as she delivered Meals on Wheels for more than 30 years and volunteered at Gracedale Nursing Home for over three decades.

Outside of her many years of service, Elsie was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and was especially known for her delicious pastie baking. She also cherished traveling to Wyoming to spend time with her daughter and family. Above all, family remained an important part of her life.

Surviving is her daughter Jane Bierei, husband Gregg of Cody, Wyoming; son, James Frey, wife Debbie of East Stroudsburg, PA; five grandchildren, Monique, Terra, Gina, Schuyler, and Michael; eight great grandchildren, Julian, Stella, Brixton, Jed, Jacob, Savanna, Levi, and Kaylee; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by 3 brothers, Harold, Gilbert, and Donald and 4 sisters, Evelyn, Dorothy, Alta and Alberta.

Friends and family are invited to call from 10:00-11:00 AM, Friday, November 13th at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 S. Broad St., Nazareth, with funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Nazareth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Church Building Trust Fund.
