EMILY MAE HOOVER CLEMIS Emily Mae (Hoover) Clemis, 98, of Forks Township, passed away early Saturday morning September 14, 2013, in Easton Hospital, with her loving family by her side. BORN: May 21, 1915 in Williams Township, she was a daughter of the late Raymond Bertram Hoover and Sadie Jones Hoover Chesman. Emily was the wife of Walter Roger Clemis with whom she celebrated 63 years of marriage prior to his death, January 30, 2002. PERSONAL: Emily graduated from Easton High School, class of 1933. Thereafter, and throughout her life, she was dedicated to her family. Being active in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she received great pleasure from their individual personalities and the spirit of their youth. Most notably however, it was her un-waivered dedication in caring for her special child, "Buddy" that gave her longevity. It was with her everlasting love and support that she was able to provide him with day to day care for 73 years. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was formerly employed by Tatamy Sportswear and the Intermediate Unit #20, as a teacher's aide, until retirement. She was also an avid sports fan, enjoying all types of sports at various levels, local, collegian and professional. MEMBERSHIPS: She, along with her husband, were amongst determined Lehigh Valley parents in the startup of advocacy programs for children with disabilities, later becoming active members of LARC (the former Lehigh Valley Association for Retarded Children, now Via). Earlier, Emily was also involved with the 4H Club and Girl Scouts of America. Additionally, she was a life long member of Forks United Church of Christ where she was recognized as the oldest living member. SURVIVORS: She is survived by one son, James J. of Nazareth; two daughters, Laraine Kresge and her husband Melvin of Plainfield Township and Linda Saltern of Wilson Borough; eight grandchildren, Beth Watson of VA, Christine Pollock and her husband Scott of MD, Jill Battaglia and her husband Mike of VA, Keith Kresge and his wife Terry of Plainfield Township, Scott Kresge of DE, Amy Knitter and her husband Wil of Plainfield Township, Matthew Saltern of CO and Kelly Saltern of CA; several great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ethan Pollock, Ryan Battaglia, Jesica Knitter Alfinito, Amanda and Alyssa Knitter and great great-granddaughter, Sariena Alfinito. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by one son, Walter "Buddy" Clemis Jr.; sisters, Irene Mengel and Mildred Hoover in infancy; brothers William, George and Kenneth Hoover in infancy. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held Thursday, at 11:00 a.m., in Forks United Church of Christ, 4500 Sullivan Trail, Stockertown, PA 18083-0158 with Pastor Bob Gutekunst presiding. Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow in Forks Cemetery, Stockertown. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Schmidt Funeral Home, P.C., 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth.
