Erma C. Miller, 93, of Bangor, PA, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2021 in Gracedale, due to COVID-19. She was the wife of Fredrick T. Miller for 59 years before his passing on October 28, 2006.
Erma was born on a farmette in Washington Township on February 9, 1927, a daughter of the late Oscar and Beulah (Ackerman) Ruch.
She married Fred on April 5, 1947, and moved to Paul Richard's farm, now Miller's farm, where she resided for 66 years. She attended the Crossroad School in Delabole, PA.
Erma was a homemaker and worked on the farm. She had a gigantic garden which lead to constant canning and freezing of vegetables and fruits. She enjoyed baking and had an endless supply of homemade cookies. Erma enjoyed watching her birds at the feeders and her many cats at the farm.
Her pastimes included crocheting hangers, shelling corn for her chickens, and making hundreds of newborn hats for Warren Hospital. She helped make lap robes and neck pillows for the social ministry at St. Peter's Church and enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk and Jeopardy on TV.
Erma was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Plainfield Township, the LCW and taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the Plainfield Farmer's Association.
Surviving is a daughter, Marilyn Hart (Charles); sons, Gerald (Gwen) and Glenn (Kim); grandchildren, Joseph Hart (Cindy), Susan Kocher (Kenneth), Russell Miller (Jenn), Matthew Miller (Tara), and Kyle Miller (Kendra); great-grandchildren, Kevin Hart (Sara), Alysse Fraunfelter (Todd), Kristina Kocher, Trent, Ty and Trey Miller, Sophia and Maverick Miller, and Brayden Miller; step great-grandchildren, Hope and Kolton; great-great-grandchildren, Carson and Brielle Hart, and baby girl Fraunfelter arriving soon. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews; sister, Doris Brewer (Sonny), sister-in-law, Margaret Teel, and former daughter-in-law, Brenda Miller.
Along with her parents and husband Fred, Erma was predeceased by sisters, Verna Uhler, Martha Strauss, Arlene Pysher and brother Ralph Ruch.
A public graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 11 am in Plainfield Cemetery, Plainfield Township. Face coverings and social distancing will be required at the cemetery. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the viewing will be private with the family. Arrangements are under the care of the Schmidt Funeral Home, 202 West St., Wind Gap.
Contributions in Erma's memory may be offered to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Loving Care Fund, 1422 Church Rd, Pen Argyl, PA 18072.
Erma's family would like to send a personal thank you to Gracedale and the staff of NW2 and Tower 10 for the care of their mother. The staff made sure the family received updates on her health and assisted with phone calls during the COVID-19 pandemic. The family feels blessed that their mother lived in such a compassionate facility. God bless all the workers at Gracedale.
