Esther M. Michaels, 93, passed away January 27, 2015 in Country Meadows of Bethlehem. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul Michaels who died August 10, 1991. Born March 23, 1921 in Mauch Chunk (now Jim Thorpe), she was one of eleven children and the oldest daughter born to the late Charles and Maria (Arner) Huegel. Esther graduated from Wilson High School. She worked at Taylor Wharton during WWII. She later worked as a waitress for several area diners for over 65 years, last working for the Palmer Diner, retiring at the age of 86. She enjoyed going on trips with the Ambassador Club, dancing and spending time at the casinos. Esther is survived by three sons, Raymond Michaels (Joanne), Paul Michaels (Connie) and Carlton Michaels (Patricia); nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by ten brothers and sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, February 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Schmidt Funeral Home, P.C., 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth, and on Monday, February 2, from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Rick Tunis presiding. Burial will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine, Easton.
