Floyd L. Kemmerer, 89, of Wind Gap, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Slate Belt Nursing & Rehab Center. He was the beloved husband of Velma (Rice) Kemmerer with whom he shared 68 years of marriage. BORN: Floyd was born on June 17, 1925 in Wind Gap. He was a son of the late Floyd L. Kemmerer, Sr. and Hannah (Williams) Kemmerer. PERSONAL: A member of the U.S. Navy, Floyd served in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Leon during WWII. He was well known as the owner of Floyd's Barber Shop for many, many years until his retirement in 1988. Always very civic minded, he enjoyed serving his community and was active in the Brothers In Harmony, the Wind Gap Fire Company, and the Slate Belt Senior Center. MEMBERSHIPS: Floyd was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wind Gap, now part of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plainfield Township, SURVIVORS: In addition to his beloved wife Velma, Floyd is survived by a son, Craig Kemmerer (Patty); a daughter, Lorna Overholt (Warren); grandchildren, Bryce Kemmerer (Nora), Alyssa Smith (David), Steven Overholt (Kimberly Sheffer) and Kimberly Tsihlis (Peter); and great grandchildren, George and Maria Tsihlis. Floyd was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas and John Kemmerer. SERVICES: Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 am on Saturday, January 24, 2015, in the Schmidt Funeral Home, P.C., 202 West St., Wind Gap. A funeral service will follow at 11 am in the funeral home, with the Rev. C. Frank Terhune presiding. Burial will be private. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, contributions in Floyd's name may be made to the church.
