Obituary

Frances Newman, formerly of Palm Harbor, FL, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024, at Country Meadows Nursing and Rehab Center, Bethlehem Township.  Frances was born March 26, 1931, in St. Louis, Mo., a daughter of the late Thurman and Evelyn Ely Darnell. She was the beloved wife of William David Newman Sr. with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to his passing in February 2015.

Frances was an accomplished woman. She graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. For many years she excelled with a career in education, until retirement, serving as an elementary school teacher for various school systems in Missouri, and New Jersey. Notably she also taught allied soldiers and their children while her husband served with the Armed Forces overseas.

Frances was a very active woman. She was an avid Bridge player, participated in Book clubs and always looked forward to the numerous activities of her country club. Residing in Palm Harbor, FL, since 1990, she could often be found on the golf course enjoying a round of golf.

She was a member of the Sterling Society of the Dunedin Fine Art Center, and a proud member of the D.A.R. She was of the Presbyterian faith.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Nancy Kielar of Easton and son, William David Newman Jr. of Weston, FL; grandchildren, Samantha Guffy and Michael Kielar; great-grandson, Kyler Guffy. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Larry Darnell in 2015.

Services will be private with burial to take place in Palm Harbor, FL.
