Obituary

Frank A. Kern, 98, formerly of Lower Nazareth, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 in Alexandria Manor, Nazareth.  Born June 4, 1924 in Nazareth, he was a son of the late David and Helen (Marsh) Kern.  Frank was the loving husband of Mildred (Kleintop) Kern who passed away in March of 2000; together they celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Frank was a proud US Army veteran, serving with the Red Devil 702 Tank Division during WWII and later was employed at CF Martin Co. in the fret and neck department from 1946 until his retirement in 1986.  He always enjoyed baking, and eventually turned his hobby into a fulltime business, Kern's Shoofly Pies, which he baked at his home and distributed to local stores and produce stands.

He was an active member of St John's Lutheran Church, Nazareth and a lifetime member of the Hecktown Fire Company.

Frank is survived by his daughter Carolann Slack and husband John of Phillipsburg, NJ; son James Kern and wife Linda of Bushkill Township; grandchildren Alison Mutchler and husband Matthew, Stacy Hageman and husband Timothy, Krista Woods and husband Christopher and John Slack and companion Marie Morrison; great grandchildren Connor, Nathan, Logan, Nicholas, Samantha, Tori, Quintin and Abigail and great great grandchild Paisley.

Along with his wife and parents, Frank is predeceased by his son Kenneth and brothers Ernest, John and David Kern.

Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Friday, June 17 from 10-11 am in St. John's Lutheran Church, 200 South Broad St., Nazareth where the funeral service will begin at 11 am.  Frank will be laid to rest in Hope Cemetery, Hecktown.
