Obituary

George Herbert Hill Jr., born April 12, 1929, in Wind Gap, peacefully passed away at home on January 29, in Saylorsburg, with his family at his side.

George was the oldest son of George Hill Sr. and Emma Lewis Hill. "Buster," as he was affectionally known, was a steadfast industrious man from an early age. He started working at ten years of age after school at a local factory to help support his family. As a young man George served his country by joining the Army during the Korean War where he spent time in Stuttgart, Germany. During this time, he met the love of his life, Joyce Halstead. They met at Saylors Lake and corresponded while he was in the Army. George and Joyce were married for 72 years and lived and raised their family in Saylorsburg.

George was employed by Suprador in Wind Gap for twenty years and then additionally was employed by Bear Automotives in Bangor before retiring in 1994. Throughout his lifetime Goerge enjoyed car racing, boating, baseball, hunting, fishing trips with friends, camping with family and friends, golfing, waterskiing, swimming, collecting depression glass, roller skating and sitting on his back porch with his dogs. George took pride in his home and was an avid gardener. In his later years he enjoyed building and painting benches.

George is survived by his faithful wife Joyce, loving son Ricky and beloved daughter Holly (Frances) Molenda; forever cherished and remembered by his grandchildren, Greta (Wayne) Sarte, Luke Molenda, Olivia Molenda, Ava Molenda and one devoted great-granddaughter Sophia Sarte; brother Harold (Patti) Hill and three sisters, Dorothy Lobb, Evelyn Stocker and Dolores Bayless; many nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his son Gary Hill, sister Betty Hill and brothers Robert and Walter Hill.

The family would like to thank the local Veterans Affairs office, Visiting Angels and the Compassus Hospice Team for providing additional care.

A Memorial Service will be held at Schmidt Funeral Home, 202 West St., Wind Gap on February 7, at 10 AM.
