On Friday, November 8, 2024, George R. Lewis passed away at Morningstar Living (Moravian Hall Square), Nazareth. George was the youngest son of Violet (Sprague) Evert and Hugh R. Lewis. He was born in Attica, NY on July 27, 1927 and graduated from Attica High School in 1945. He joined the Maritime Service (Merchant Marines), and later enlisted in the army. Following his service, he enrolled in Syracuse University and graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering. While at Syracuse, he met his wife-to-be, a nursing student named Elaine Cornnell. On June 21, 1952, they married and settled in York, PA. He began his career at the York Corporation, York Naval Ordinance. Later employment took him to the Textile Machine Works in Wyomissing, PA and then to Harris- Intertype Corporation, in Easton, PA. He worked as an independent consultant, and completed his career at S.I. Handling. After retirement, in 1993, his final relocation was to Moravian Hall Square, in 2005. He and Elaine found a very comfortable and happy home there, where they considered both staff and residents to be their family.

George and Elaine were long-time members of College Hill Presbyterian Church, where he served as both elder and trustee. George had many interests; he was a life-long bowler, his proudest achievement was a score of 299 out of 300 in sanctioned play. He and Elaine always kept a garden, enjoying the fresh produce, and sharing their bounty.  He was an avid fisherman, and from the time of their honeymoon, until they reached their 80's, Dalhousie Lake was a beloved destination, shared by their entire family. At Moravian, George was active with the in-house tv station, exercise programs, and pool, often playing six days per week. The relationships he forged were paramount in George's life. Particularly in his later years, he valued regular correspondence, marking birthdays and celebrations, and exchanging letters and photos.

George is survived by his three children, (Linda, David and Amy), nine grandchildren, (Jeremy, Erin, Christine, Tim, Johnna, Rachel, Katie, Nate and Paige), and nine great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his siblings, Gladys, Hugh and Bill.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 13, at Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth from 6-7:30 p.m., with services to begin at 7:30. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, at 11 a.m., in Kortz Hall at Morningstar (Moravian Hall Square), with a luncheon to follow.
