Obituary

George L. Scheffler, 72, of Forks Township, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014 in Manor Care, Easton. He was the husband of Carol Altemose Scheffler with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Born January 9, 1942 in Northampton, he was a son of the late Arthur and Mary Reinisch Scheffler. George was a graduate of Northampton High School and served in the US Army from 1961-1964. He worked in the International Shipping Department at Crayola, retiring after 40 years of service. George loved spending time outdoors whether it be hunting or fishing, or to simply enjoy the beauty of nature. He attended Arndt's Lutheran Church in Forks Township and was a life member of the US Hunting Club, a life member of the East Bath Rod and Gun Club, and the NRA. His family wishes to thank the Heartland Hospice for the excellent care George received during his illness. George considered his family as his greatest legacy which along with his loving wife Carol, includes one son Eric and his wife Chris of Blandon, one daughter April Decker and her husband Don of Easton, and three grandchildren Kelsey, Alex and Emilee, as well as one brother James of Northampton, and one sister Ann Sinkovits and her husband Robert of Whitehall. He was predeceased by one sister Lillian Watson. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, July 1, from 10-11 am in Arndt's Lutheran Church, 1851 Arndt Road, Easton. A memorial service will follow at 11 am, in the church, with Pastor Jean Huber presiding. A private burial will be held in Hope Cemetery, Hecktown. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Schmidt Funeral Home, P.C., 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth. Memorials in George's name may be offered to the American Cancer Society, Lehigh Valley Unit, 3893 Alder Place, Suite 170, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
