George C. Scott Jr., 83, of Palmer Township, died Friday, July 10, 2026, at St. Luke’s Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Lois (Butz) Scott for 58 years.

Born and raised in Palmer Township, he was the son of the late George C. Scott Sr. and Sadie (Smith) Scott. Growing up on his family’s farm, he learned the value of hard work at an early age, tending buffalo, deer, and countless other animals while helping with the farm’s alfalfa and corn operations. George often said he had the best childhood any child could have.

A 1960 graduate of Nazareth Area High School, George continued his education at Churchman Business College, earning an associate degree in specialized accounting, and later pursued additional studies at Penn State Allentown and Northampton Community College. He honorably served his country in the Pennsylvania National Guard and U.S. Army National Guard from 1964 to 1970 during the Vietnam War era.

George enjoyed a long and dedicated career. After working with his father at Meadow Brook Farms in his youth, he worked for Friedman Brothers for three years, St. Regis Paper Company for 19 years, Union Metal Corporation for six years, and spent 21 years with Mack Cadmus, Cenveo Printing Company, where he retired in 2012 at the age of 70.

Service to others was a cornerstone of George’s life. He devoted countless volunteer hours to the Hecktown Fire Company Ambulance Corps, volunteering at fire company events and selling tickets at the Carnival. He also volunteered with the Plainfield Riding Club, National Square Dance Association, IMBA Easton Band, AARP, and also visited many stroke patients after his own stroke in 2004. He was a longtime member of The American Legion, and a life member of the Hecktown Fire Company Social Club and Palmer Township Social Club, and a faithful member of St. John’s U.C.C. in Nazareth.

George found joy in life’s simple pleasures: riding his horse, Tommy, bowling, square dancing, collecting stamps and memorabilia, raising tropical fish, working on his computer, traveling with Lois, and caring for his home. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, especially watching his granddaughter Kayla grow up and perform in her musical activities. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, service to his community, and the quiet kindness that touched so many lives.

Surviving with his wife are his daughters, Tammy Bacak, husband Stephen, and Jennifer Scott; granddaughter, Kayla Bacak; and many cousins on both sides of his family.

Friends and family are invited to call from 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, July 16th at Schmidt Funeral Home PC, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth. An additional calling will be held Friday, July 17th from 10:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow in Hope Cemetery, Hecktown.
