Obituary

George L. Stenlake, 90, of Wind Gap, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2016, at ManorCare in Bethlehem, where he had been a resident for the past year. He was the husband of the late Dolores I. Gum Stenlake, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage at the time of her passing in November 2008.

Born on June 28, 1925, in East Bangor, he was the only child of the late Richard Stenlake and Hilda Handelong Stenlake Kaiser.

After graduating from Bangor High School, George honorably served his country with the US Navy during World War II. He worked as a butcher for Russell Gum Meats in Plainfield Twp. for 16 years, and in 1966 began working for G.A.F., formerly known as SupraDur Manufacturing, in the Shipping/Receiving Department, from where he retired in 1989. He previously served as a Volunteer Fireman with the Wind Gap Fire Company.


George is survived by two daughters, Debra Thompson and her husband Sherwood of Republic, MO, and Cynthia Kern and her husband William of Whitehall, PA. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Matthew Williams, Jason Williams and his wife Julie, Heather Santee and her husband Jamie, Michael Kern and Christopher Thompson; and 3 great-grandchildren, Macenzie and Bailie Williams and Nicholas Santee.

Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, in the Schmidt Funeral Home, 202 West Street, Wind Gap. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Chaplain Patrick McCormick officiating. Burial will follow in Plainfield Cemetery.
