Hazel M. Kugel, 92, a resident of Alexandria Manor in Nazareth, and formerly of Garden City, SC, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospice House, Bethlehem. She was the wife of the late George R. Kugel with whom she shared 54 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 1999. Born on September 12, 1924, in Levonia, GA, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Dixie Lankford McClain.
Hazel worked as an Assistant Manager for New Jersey Bell for 15 years, retiring in 1979. After relocating to Garden City, SC, she worked part-time as a Manager for McDonald's for 20 more years, and was a member of the Garden City Baptist Church, where she was very involved with the community outreach programs. She moved to PA in 2007 to be near her children. She was a former member of the Carpenter's Community Church in Nazareth. Hazel was an avid pinochle player and especially enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren.
Hazel is survived by her children, John Kugel and his wife Debra of Tatamy, and Linda Shone of San Diego, CA. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Scott Shone and his wife Ondrea, Kacy Miller and her husband Michael, and Colleen Egbuna and her husband Onyeka; four great-grandchildren, Jonah and Jaxson Shone and McKinley and Maris Miller; a brother, William McClain of Martinex, GA; and a sister, Helen West of Canton, OH. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Tim McClain.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, December 30, from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere Street, Nazareth, PA, 18091, where a Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Paul Milligan officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Hazel's memory may be offered to VNA of St. Luke's Hospice House, 2455 Black River Road, Bethlehem, PA 18015
