Mrs. Helen Adams passed away and began her journey to the home prepared for her by our Blessed Lord on November 22, 2014. She was 90 years old. Mrs. Adams was born the youngest of eleven children to Istvan and Borbala Bago in 1924 in Tok, Pest Province, Hungary. She left Hungary in the final days of the Second World War and, after a brief stint at a refugee camp in Austria, traveled to England where she found work. While in England, she was a Hungarian translator for the BBC where she helped translate the audio trial proceedings against Cardinal Jozsef Mindszenty by the Communist puppet regime in Hungary. She married an American, Charlie Toth, also while in England, and subsequently immigrated to Texas. Mrs. Adams moved to New Jersey in the early 1950s and lived there for many years. She worked for Englehard Industries, and Aetna and Cigna Insurance companies as well as Motor Club of America. Her marriage to Charlie Toth ended in 1962 and she subsequently married John J. Adams, an Army veteran and engineer. They established a home in East Orange, N.J. in 1964 and lived there, raising two daughters, until John's death in 1991. Mrs. Adams became a proud, naturalized American citizen in 1971 and never missed voting in national elections. She loved life and, during her years in Pennsylvania, was active in the Pro-Life movement. She participated in the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. well into her 80s. Mrs. Adams moved to Nazareth, PA in 1994, where she watched her two grand-daughters, Victoria and Alexandra Yates, grow into beautiful young women. She was a parishioner at Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth for many years. Mrs. Adams leaves many cherished relatives and friends in the United States, Hungary and Canada including a sister, Mrs. ZsuZsa Kecskes of Paty, Hungary; her daughter, Barbara Toth of Annandale, VA; her daughter Mrs. Lynn D. Yates and husband Robert Yates; Mrs. Gail McGovern and her husband Wayne McGovern; beloved grandchildren including Mrs. Jeanine Ferguson and husband John of Potomac Falls, VA, Captain Steven McGovern of Chandler, AZ, and eight great-grandchildren. She also leaves many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family in Texas and Hungary. Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday December 21, 2014, from 1-2pm in the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2pm in the funeral home. Burial will be private with the family.
