Obituary

Helen R. Johnson, 90, formerly of Plainfield Township, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Gracedale.  She was the beloved wife of the late Earl Johnson, who passed July 2, 2016.  Born on October 16, 1926, in Plainfield Township, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Knitter.

Helen retired from Blue Valley Sportswear in Pen Argyl after many years of service.  She was a dedicated and long standing member of the Plainfield Township Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, as well as the Aluta Lodge of the Rebekah #202 IOOF.

Helen is survived by two sons, Russell M. Johnson Sr. and his companion Virgie Frailey of Sciota, and Martin Johnson and his wife Elsie of Saylorsburg; one daughter, Janet Ziegenfus and her husband Brooks of Gilbert; one brother, Willard Knitter of Plainfield Township; two grandsons, Russell Johnson Jr. of Florida, and Colin E. Johnson of Saylorsburg; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by four brothers, Howard Knitter, Abram Knitter, William Knitter, and Wilbert Knitter.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday evening, April 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, April 13, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, 202 West Street, Wind Gap, PA.  Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Dr. Dean D. Frey officiating.  Burial will follow at Plainfield Cemetery.
