Herbert E. "Herb" Weidman, 92, of Wind Gap, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 in Chandler Estates. He was the husband of the late Lorraine Lilly Weidman who passed away on March 25, 2019; they were married for 68 years.
Born December 5, 1926 in Plainfield Township, he was the son of the late Ora Weidman and Isabel Smith Weidman Waverak.
Herb graduated from Pen Argyl High School, class of 1944 and honorably served in the U S Army Air Corp until the end of WW II.
He was employed in the Slate Quarry industry, Ingersoll-Rand in the tool design department after completing a course in drafting, and in 1962, started working for Pennsylvania Pump and Compressor later known as Cooper Industries as a machinist for 28 years, retiring April 30, 1990. While he worked at Cooper, he served as master of ceremonies for the annual Christmas party.
Herb was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Plainfield Township, and former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wind Gap for 53 years where he served on church council for 52 years and sang on the church choir.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting, searching for Indian artifacts and camping with his family.
Herb was a member and past president of the Skeeter Skooters Chapter of NCHA, he served one year as treasurer of the Pennsylvania National Campers and Hikers Association and was past President of the Archeology Chapter 14 of Easton. He also served 10 years as President of AARP Chapter 4135 of the Slate Belt and was a member of the Wind Gap American Legion Post 724.
He is survived by 3 daughters; Deborah Robinson and her husband Hugh of Wellington, FL, Sharon Kostenbader and her husband Chris of Casa Grande, AZ and Susan Samus and her husband John of Mt. Joy, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Herb was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth "Betty" Allen.
Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 from 10-11 am in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1422 Church Road, Pen Argyl (Plainfield Township). The funeral service will begin at 11 am with Rev. Chris Druckenmiller presiding. Herb will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, Nazareth.
Memorials in Herb's name may be offered to the Alzheimers Association in care of the funeral home.
