Ilidio Rodrigues' Obituary
Ilidio Rodrigues, 89, of Forks Township, passed away on May 29, 2017 at his residence. He was the husband of Aurora Cunha Rodrigues; together they celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Born on March 29, 1928 in Nelas, Portugal, he was a son of the late Joaquim and Maria Do Carmo Rodrigues.
Ilidio was a forklift operator for a metal company before retiring. He was of the Catholic faith.
Ilidio's greatest pride in life was his family both near and far. He worked hard to create a better life for his wife and kids, and bravely moved them to America at 34 years of age so that they could have more opportunity. He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who was very actively involved in the raising of his children and grandchildren. Despite having little formal education he was polished, intelligent, wise and kind to everyone. He had a natural talent for many things, whether it be carpentry, growing the biggest most delicious vegetables in town or grilling the most perfect steaks. He was also a devoted fan of Benfica soccer team. He was sharp, organized and independent until well into his 80's. According to his family; "beyond everything he gave us, he was always our best friend. He gave his family so much, and although he will be dearly missed his example will live on in our hearts forever. We all love you very much."
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Paul Rodrigues and his wife Joan of Ocala, FL, one daughter, Maria Rodrigues and her husband Julio of Forks Township; four grandchildren, Gabriela, Daniel, Paul Jr. and his wife Kyoko and Eileen Rodrigues and one great-grandchild, Sebastian; one brother, Albano Rodrigues of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and two sisters, Lourdes Da Cruz, and Alice Brandao both of Rio de Janeiro.
Relatives and friend are invited to call, Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 10-11 am in the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth. A Catholic Prayer Service will begin at 11 am in the funeral home. Ilidio will be laid to rest in Forks Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38105.
