Irene E. Dech, 96, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at her residence in Plainfield Township. Born on January 15, 1928, in Delabole, Irene will be remembered as a beacon of strength to all who knew her.

One of eleven children, Irene, the daughter of the late Russell and Helen (Free) Stofflet, grew up in a bustling household alongside her siblings during the Great Depression; all contributing factors to her resilience, her dedication to her loved ones, and her ability to make the best out of every situation.

She was the beloved wife of Donald Dech, who preceded her in death in February of 1994. Their loving union brought forth two daughters, Donna Snyder (Jay) and Linda Dishman (Henry John), who then expanded the family with grandchildren Amy Bachman (Barry), Leslie Marsteller (Carl), Marcia Roberts, Donald Dishman, Katie Witko (Nick), and Stacey Trostel (Benjamin); and nine great-grandchildren who carry on her legacy.

Irene's hands were rarely still, as she found joy in gardening, crocheting, and quilting. She was also a wonderful baker, known for her award-winning white cake, a highlight for her at the Plainfield Farmer's Fair. Irene's love for Country music and square dancing were also a testament to the joy she found in simple pleasures.

Perhaps it was Irene's no-nonsense approach to life that resulted in a strong sense of determination and practicality. Her life was marked by her dedication to family and to doing hard work. A talented seamstress, Irene was employed by various blouse mills in the Slate Belt area. She remained consistent and steadfast in all her endeavors, whether at work or at home.

Irene was a longtime and faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Plainfield Township, where she was deeply involved in the LCW, Lutheran Church Women's group. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her work with the group, making robes and shawls for those in need.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, she leaves behind her siblings, including sisters Dorothy Englert, Ruth Getz, and Sharon Lohman, and brothers Charles, Sherwood, Duane, and Russell Stofflet, II. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard and Steward Stofflet and sister, Dolores Ace.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing Monday, November 25, from 10-11 am in St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1422 Church Rd, Pen Argyl (Plainfield Township).  A funeral service will follow at 11 am in the church.  Irene will be laid to rest in the family plot at Plainfield Cemetery.
