Irene E. McWilliams, 90, formerly of Nazareth and Pen Argyl, passed away peacefully into God's arms on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Gracedale, Northampton County, PA due to the complications of Alzheimer's disease. Born on January 4, 1924 in Plainfield Township, PA, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Pearl (Meixsell) Heimer. Her husband, John, died June 20, 2002. Irene graduated from Pen Argyl High School in June of 1940. She received an R.N. degree from the Easton Hospital School of Nursing. Her early career training was done at New York's Polyclinic Medical School and Hospital. She settled into her career as an R.N. at Easton Hospital; also did private duty nursing and later in life as a unit nurse at Gracedale, where she retired from in 1987. Irene enjoyed the summertime barbeques on "Teels Hill" and the boating excursions to Lake Wallenpaupack. Later in life she enjoyed the cabin at Peck's Pond with her family. She will be remembered as a loving mother, a supportive wife and a caring human being. Irene was a member of St. Peter's Reformed Church in Plainfield Township which later became Hope United Church of Christ in Wind Gap. She was also a member of the Easton Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. She is survived by two sons, Thomas and his wife, Osleen of Nazareth and Robert of Monroe County; a step-granddaughter, Casey Trimper of Cinnaminson, NJ; and numerous cousins. A granddaughter Erin died earlier. There will be a viewing from 6:00 to 8:00PM on Tuesday, June 3, at the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere Street, Nazareth. The funeral service will begin at 11:00AM Wednesday, June 4, at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Dean Frey officiating. Burial will follow in Plainfield Cemetery, Pen Argyl.
