It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Day Edwards, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who died at the age of 92 at his home at Walden III, Wind Gap, PA on: Sunday October 5, 2025. He passed peacefully after a short illness.
Born in City Island, NY, on January 6, 1933 to Marie Day and William Albert Edwards.
The family moved from City Island to the Bronx, near the Bronx Zoo and later to Jersey City before finally settling in Halsey Valley NY at the end of 8th grade. James applied for the college regents exam and received a scholarship to Cornell University in Ithica NY and graduated from the College of Agriculture in 1954. James took ROTC and received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. He went to Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma and graduated artillery school and ordered to South Korea and joined the 52nd Artillery Battalion just south of the DMZ.
While working in Arkport, NY, he met Nancy Lou at Loon Lake in the summer of 1958. They dated for 2 years and married August 20, 1960 @ Christ Episcopal Church, Hornell, NY.
They moved to Belleville, NJ, then later to Matawan, NJ and then to Whippany NJ in 1976.
In 1963, he took a test at AT&T and was offered a job at NJ Bell as operations manager and started working with the 1st generation IBM computers. He became a programmer and worked for NJ Bell for 22 years. He later took a job with ADP and worked there for another 12 years before retiring in 2002.
James was an avid chess player & bowler. He enjoyed bridge, poker & golf. Was active at First Presbyterian Church of Whippany as an Elder, Choir member, & involved with many committees and social programs. He became a small airplane pilot and flew out of Morristown & Teterboro, NJ airports.
James is predeceased by his beloved wife Nancy Lou Edwards (April 6, 2025) and survived by daughters:
Lisa Anne Edwards-Noraas (husband Karl Noraas), Jennifer Lynne (Edwards) Ludlum(husband Peter Ludlum), and Patricia Carole Edwards, his grandchildren: Bridgett Keim, Caitlin Keim, Anastasia Meccia, Dominic Meccia and Extended family: Loren and Theresa Keim and their children Logan and Kourtney Keim and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at a date in the future.
