James W. Guthrie, Jr., 86, of Stockertown, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Gracedale Nursing Home. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Henry) Guthrie; together they shared 54 years of marriage this past June. BORN: Born July 8, 1928, in Pen Argyl, Jim was the youngest child of the late James and Marguerite (Colmer) Guthrie Jim was a member of the U.S. Army and honorably served his country during the Korean conflict. He worked for Bethlehem Steel for 38 years in various capacities. He was an avid sports fan, and he especially loved Penn State football and Yankees baseball, and enjoyed making trips to Yankee Stadium. He was a member of Forks United Church of Christ, Stockertown. In addition to his wife, Joan, Jim is survived by two Godchildren and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 3 sisters. Family and friends are invited to call from 9 to 11 am on Monday, March 9, 2015, at Forks United Church of Christ, 4500 Sullivan Trail, Stockertown, PA. A funeral service will follow at 11 am with the Rev. Bob Gutekunst presiding. Burial will be in Forks Cemetery, Stockertown. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere Street, Nazareth, PA. Memorial contributions in Jim's name may be made to the church at the above address.
