Obituary

James R. Jennings, 88, of Bushkill Township, PA and Zephyr Hills, FL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2025, in Lehigh Valley Hospital – Muhlenberg, Bethlehem. Known affectionately as Jim to his friends and family, he was born on April 17, 1937, in Philadelphia, a son of the late Richard T. Sr. and Lillian (Honeychurch) Jennings.

Jim's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, and his country. A proud graduate of Frankford High School, Class of 1954, Jim's sense of duty led him to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. His military career was distinguished, rising to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. Jim's bravery and service were exemplified during his two tours in Vietnam, where he earned his Vietnam Service Ribbon as an infantry weapon officer, Marine gunner. In addition to the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, he was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Navy Commendation Medal, and Presidential Certificate of Appreciation. After 24 years of honorable service, he retired from the Marine Corps, leaving behind a legacy of courage and patriotism.

Following his military career, Jim transitioned to civilian life with the same commitment and work ethic. He became a respected store manager for Hess's Tire Center, later TCI, in Palmer Township until his retirement in the private sector.

Jim's dedication extended to his spiritual life as a faithful member of St. Brigid's Episcopal Church in Nazareth. His strong beliefs and participation in the church community reflected his character as a man of principle and devotion.

His interests revealed a man of varied passions although hobbies involving motors ranked high on the list. An enthusiast of classic cars, he spent many hours tinkering with his antique 1940 Dodge and was a familiar face at local car shows. He also liked to have fun, and his adventurous side was no secret to those who knew him well. He was an BMW motorcycle rider, relishing the freedom of the open road and the camaraderie of friends and fellow riders. His cross-country travels were legendary, particularly the memorable journey with his son Michael, which remained a cherished memory for both.

Although Jim could often be reserved, his true spirit shone brightest when surrounded by his loved ones. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Jim always prioritized his family, providing unwavering support and love. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for the strength of his character and the depth of his heart.

Jim's presence will be profoundly missed by his friends and family. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie (Schauer) Jennings for an incredible 68 years, a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised a family that included their sons Michael Jennings (Annette) of Nazareth, Joseph Jennings (Karen) of Sunbury, and daughter Donna Karmw (David) of Nazareth. He was a proud grandfather to Christopher, Kyle, Rebecca, and Sarah. Jim was predeceased by his son, James R. Jennings Jr., and his brother, Richard T. Jennings.
