Obituary

James L. "Jim" Schaadt Jr., 72, of Bushkill Township, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 19, 2018 in LV Hospital, Muhlenberg Campus. He was the beloved husband of Sandra Dewalt Schaadt with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.

Born August 19, 1946 in Easton, he was a son of the late James L. Sr. and Jean Zimmerman Schaadt.

Jim was a graduate of Easton High School, Class of 1964, Northampton Community College with an A.S. in Engineering, and Lafayette College with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Following high school graduation, he served with the United States Navy on board the USS Mt. McKinley AGC-7 during the Vietnam War.

Jim enjoyed an extensive and successful career as an electrical engineer in the cement industry. His work took him to various parts of the world including Europe, Asia and South America. His responsibilities included plant management and implementing new plant expansions, most notably, the Signal Mountain Cement Plant Expansion where he served as project manager from 1997-2001. Jim retired from Buzzi Unicem following his work in rebuilding their New Orleans facility after Hurricane Katrina. He formerly served as a committee member and Drives Working Group Chair for the IEEE Cement Industry Conference. He also owned and operated Digital Technical Services, Inc.

Jim was an active member of Forks United Church of Christ. He had an interest in history and genealogy and served as Historian for the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting, fishing, camping and riding his motorcycle.

He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather who lived life for his family. He dedicated his life to live by example and took pride in mentoring others both personally and professionally. He was loved by all who knew him for his selfless, patient, generous and kind nature.

Along with his beloved wife Sandy, Jim is survived by his children, Jason Schaadt and his wife Jane of Bushkill Township, Jamie Schaadt of Brooklyn, NY, Jenifer Schaadt of Bushkill Township, Vincent Richards and his wife Rhiannon of Port Charlotte, FL and Jermaine Schaadt of Bushkill Township; 6 grandchildren, Megan Snyder, Ryan and Selina Psarras, Mekhi Zuniga, and Brady and Vincent Richards; as well as his brother David C. Schaadt and Aunt Anne Thornton. He was predeceased by his parents James and Jean, and brother Henry Schaadt.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 25 from 6:30-9pm and Friday October 26 from 10-11am in Forks United Church of Christ, 4500 Sullivan Trail, Stockertown. A funeral service will follow on Friday at 11am with Pastor Bob Gutekunst presiding. Jim will be laid to rest, with Military Honors, in Forks Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the Schmidt Funeral Home, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jim's memory may be offered to the church or Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org .
