Obituary

Joan did not go gentle into that good night.  Joan passed on November 23 at the Saucon Valley Manor Assisted Care facility on November 23 rd exactly two months prior to her 90 th birthday and two days following the anniversary of her husband Ray's passing.  The word most used to describe Joan was feisty —a trait that endeared her to most but especially those caregivers at Family Pillars Hospice, Whitehall Manor, and Saucon Valley Manor—and Joan loved them all dearly.

Joan's parents were Dudley Percy Chapman and Mildred Mary Bishop of Lake Ariel, PA.  Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Clement LaVigne and by her twin brother Jack Chapman and sister Lenore Edwards, and step grandson Jared McDonald.  She is survived by her sons James Hutchins and daughter in law Lisa, Robert Hutchins, and daughter in law Colleen. Also, Joan is also survived by stepsons Raymond and Marcel LaVigne, by step grandchildren Jason and Dustin LaVigne and by great grandson Luke McDonald.

Also surviving Joan are her nieces, Deb Ott and Pat Palumbo and her nephews, Gary Edwards and Randy Chapman.

Joan's game was golf, and her favorite sports team was the New York Football Giants—she was especially proud of her 1986 Match Play Championship victory at the Walden on Lake Houston Country Club (called the Queens Cup) and her Hole in One made on the 16 th hole at Columbia Lakes Golf and Country Club (later described in articles as one the of the most difficult Par 3's in the Houston, TX area).

Joan took delight in boasting about her Daughter-in-Law Lisa's golfing successes sharing in Lisa's Hole in One achievement.

Joan would prefer that during the holiday, people spend their time enjoying the festive season (especially Christmas Shopping) and not mourning her passing.  As such, a celebration/ceremony is being planned for springtime 2023.

Joan will be placed with her husband Ray at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be sent to Family Pillars Hospice at 3910 Adler Place, Bethlehem, PA 18017.  Arrangements are under the care of the Schmidt Funeral Home PC, 407 Belvidere St., Nazareth.
